Police say the suspect in Tuesday's standoff in Dartmouth was off of his prescription medication.

36-Year-old Kevin Pacheco surrendered to police after barricading himself in his home at 209 Richard Street in Dartmouth for nearly 8 hours.

During negotiations, police say Pacheco requested his doctor and prescription medication.

Police Chief Timothy Lee says Pacheco has an expired firearms license, and apparently had weapons at the ready.

Pacheco surrendered after power to his home was cut off.

The standoff was the result of emails allegedly fired off by Pacheco to several faculty members at the Roger Williams University School of Law, threatening violence at the school. Pacheco is a former student at the law school.

It's unclear what his motives were.

Chief Lee says Pacheco will undergo a mental health evaluation before being turned over to law enforcement. Lee says Pacheco will likely face numerous charges.

The entire situation is under investigation.
