Dartmouth Police are searching for a man accused of striking a police officer with his car.

Police say that on Sunday Officer Darren Emond was conducting a motor vehicle stop on State Rd. around 10 a.m.

At some point during the course of the stop the driver, identified as 44-year-old Anthony Carvalho, struck Officer Edmond as he was fleeing the scene causing the officer to sustain minor injuries.

Carvalho then allegedly lead police on a chase that went into Westport, where it was eventually called off out of concerns for the safety of the public.

Officer Edmond was cleared to return to work.

Police say Carvalho lives in the Greater Fall River area and there is an active warrant for his arrest.
