DARTMOUTH — Dartmouth Police say a report of a person with an object believed to be a rifle at the Dartmouth Mall this afternoon appears to be unfounded.

Dartmouth Police spokesman Detective Kyle Costa confirms to WBSM News that there was a police presence at the mall, after a report of a person spotted carrying an object that appeared to be a rifle underneath a sheet somewhere on mall property.

Costa stressed that it was one report, not multiple reports. He said police arrived on scene and began to investigate.

Reached by phone at about 2:30 pm, he said a vast majority of the officers had cleared the scene, and only a few officers remained behind, just to be certain there was no threat.
