The Dartmouth Police Department is officially re-accredited.

The Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission assessed the department over a period of three days last month, reviewing the department's procedures, training, and other areas mandatory for accreditation.

Dartmouth Police spokesman Detective Kyle Costa tells WBSM News accreditation carries with it certain benefits. "It opens up several doors as far as better insurance rates, or certain aspects that the job covers. As well as just being a badge of honor that not a lot of agencies have within the state," said Costa.

The accreditation is valid for three years.

This is the Dartmouth Police Department's second consecutive accreditation. The department was first accredited in 2012.
