Dartmouth Man Killed in Early Morning Crash

DARTMOUTH - A Dartmouth man is dead after a single vehicle crash in the town Thursday morning.

Dartmouth Police say officers and other emergency personnel responded to the area of Route 6 near Route 177 at around 1:47 a.m. Thursday to investigate a single car crash with injuries.

The driver of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver has been identified as Dimas Amaral, 58, of Dartmouth.

Police say Amaral was the only person in the truck at the time of the crash. Preliminary investigation reveals Amaral was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred.

The crash is under investigation by the Dartmouth Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit and Detective Division.
