The Dartmouth School District will be making a concerted effort to remove a word from the vocabulary of the students.

The Town Select Board Monday night went on record in support of the "End the R-Word" movement, which discourages the use of the words "retard" and "retarded".

Select Board Chairman Mike Watson tells WBSM News there are many other derogatory terms in the vocabulary of today's youth that should be condemned, but this is a good start.

Watson said he heard about the movement to end the use of the word through a parental organization.

The movement has roots in the Special Olympics campaign, "Spread the Word to End the Word."
