A company hoping to build an offshore wind turbine development off the coast of Martha's Vineyard has more financial backing.

OffshoreMW announced on Thursday that Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has aquired 100 percent of the company.

Julie Trangbæk, a spokesperson for Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, says that the project's exisiting development team will remain in place while CIP will provide technical expertise and senior management.

"We're very pleased that we'll now be working with the CIP team," said Richard Andre, President of Vineyard Power, "We've met with them and know they bring an enormous amount of offshore wind expertise, they have the investment capacity, and they appreciate what we have to offer as a local community partner.  Together we'll be able to deliver a great project for the Vineyard, & for the entire Commonwealth."

OffshoreMW says the project will be renamed "Vineyard Wind", to reflect the close proximity to the island and their close ties to the Vineyard Power Cooperative.

Two other companies, Deepwater Wind and DONG Energy, are also competing for the offshore wind contracts for that area.
