It's taken the South Coast, nation and seemingly the entire world by rant and rave! It's Pokemon Go - the app which allows players to find and annihilate digital monsters in the real world. Everyone around here is having a great time with it, BUT. But it seems that Pokemon Go is prompting some concerns I want you to be aware of. In a short period of time, the game has been linked to opportunist thieves using the game to track down vulnerable victims, using the "lure" technique to attract unsuspecting people to secluded areas. Users are led to area stores, landmarks and the such, but my greatest concern is this craze could easily be used by some creepy pedophile to entrap distracted children.

My warning isn't unsubstantiated. A woman carried out an 'experiment,' which saw her post a "lure" to see how many people showed up. In no time at all, several children had arrived at the chosen, most without parents, having ignored their usual 'stranger danger' radar in pursuit of the monster! Some kids will get so caught up in the game that they'll lose that sense of beware of strangers. Someone could use this game for nefarious purposes, so just beware and let the young ones know. And warn them to never let the game lure them into secluded places!
