New Bedford Police are hunting for a man who robbed several cartons of cigarettes from the Cumberland Farms store in the South End, and attacked the clerk with a windshield scraper.

Det. Lt. John Chaves tells WBSM News, a man walked into the Brock Ave. convenience store just before 10pm Monday, wearing a grey hoodie and white nylon mask. The man said he had a bomb in his backpack.

The clerk told the man to take off his mask, but the robber grabbed a plastic ice scraper and started hitting the clerk in the face. Chaves says the man then grabbed several cartons of cigarettes and left the store.

Anyone with information should contact Det. Michael Carrier at 508 991-6300, ext. 114.
