Preliminary charges have now been filed in a police-involved shooting in Dartmouth.

The District Attorney's office says 23 year old Ryan Kuphal was shot Sunday by Dartmouth Police during a confrontation on Bush St.  He is undergoing treatment at Rhode Island Hospital for a single gunshot wound, and his condition is improving.

According to D-A spokesman Gregg Miliote, Kuphal has been charged with domestic assault and battery, larceny over $250, and unarmed car-jacking.

Dartmouth Police say the suspect was shot after approaching the officers with a knife. The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave.
