The City Council's Finance Committee approves about $4 million worth of transfers from free cash to various city departments, including the school system.

Two million will be going to the School Department to cover at least part of a deficit that school officials say is around $3 million.

Finance Committee Chair Jane Gonsalves expects the School Dept. will be back seeking another million dollars.

The City Council announced last month, it expected the School Dept. to pay back any money its getting from the city-side of government.  Councilor Gonsalves tells WBSM News, nothing  has changed.....

Other transfers will enable the Police Dept. to purchase new cruisers.  Other funds will be going for a new ambulance, snow plows and maintenance projects at the Buttonwood Park Zoo.

The entire package of transfers goes before the full Council on April 25..
