City Councilor Brian Gomes says inaction by the School Committee has motivated him to get the City Council involved as it pertains to reported violence in New Bedford Public Schools.

Gomes wants the Council to meet with students and teachers at the middle and high school levels, who have seen fights and other forms of violence firsthand.

Gomes tells WBSM's "Mid-Day Live" he's received his share of criticism from select School Committee members.

Gomes hopes the interviews will give the City Council some direction in resolving or decreasing the amount of violence at the schools.

The Council's attorney is weighing the legality of executive sessions with the teachers and students.
