Applications have been submitted and the City Council is now reviewing the field of candidates that have submitted their names for the New Bedford City Clerk position.

39 people have turned in applications, hoping to fill the seat of retiring City Clerk, Rita Arruda.

Ward Four Councillor Dana Rebeiro tells WBSM News she's conducting her own review, and has narrowed her final choices down to four. Rebeiro says she's gunning for somebody who has a legal background.

Rebeiro says she will be finished interviewing candidates by the end of the week.

The councilors are expected to select a new City Clerk before the end of the month.
