The City Council is asking for increased police patrols in areas of the North End where reports of assults and robberies are on the rise.

The Council approved the request during Thursday night's meeting and it will be sent to the Mayor and Police Chief for review.

Councilor Brian Gomes says more officers and better lighting is needed to prevent more crimes in the area. Gomes is also urging the Mayan Community to take action...

The request asks for more patrols in the areas of Acushnet Avenue, North Front Street, and Sawyer Street.

There have been at least three stabbings and a robbery in the area this past week. Gomes refered to those incidents as hate crimes and says they must be stopped.
