Police in Rochester are investigating after a dog was shot eight or nine times with a pellet gun.

The owner tells WCVB-TV he let the dog outside Wednesday morning and found him later that day in a nearby cemetery. He says he saw blood as he went to pet four-year-old Noble, and the dog had visible marks all over his body from the pellets.

Rochester Police and the owner of the chocolate lab say the shooting was intentional.

WHDH-TV reports the man is not considering surgery to remove all of the pellets, which is expensive. A veterinarian said no organs were hit though, and the lab should be able to recover.
