The tribes that own Connecticut's two casinos are taking another step in their bid to open a third casino north of Hartford.

The Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes hosted a signing ceremony Thursday in Hartford to formalize their partnership.

A law passed this year allows the tribes to request proposals from cities and towns that might be interested in hosting a casino.

The tribes are hoping to open a casino along the Interstate 91 corridor in north-central Connecticut to compete with the planned MGM Resorts casino in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The tribes own and operate Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casino, tribal casinos located on sovereign land. A new casino would be subject to a slightly different set of rules as a commercial property outside of tribal land.  (Associated Press)
