Those looking for employment will have an opportunity to shop their resumes around on Thursday during the Southcoast Job Fair.

Ian Abreu of the New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce says they decided to hold this year's event at he Seaport Inn & Marina in Fairhaven with Abreu telling WBSM's Phil Paleologos that the location was more accessible for most job hunters.

"Strategically it was a better place for job seekers, especially if you're un- or underemployed, and you don't have transportation," said Abreu "SRTA Bus lets out right past the Fairhaven Bridge, so if you don't have transportation you're able to get to and from the event a little easier."

Sharon Martin, of the New Bedford Career Center, says they will not only be sending clients to the job fair, they will also be holding workshops to make sure they're prepared.

"They're pretty intense, they get you ready for the do's and don'ts, what to say, what not to say, they go over your resume, it helps you successfully navigate a job fair," said Martin.

Abreu says this event is different from your typical job fair because the Chamber works with organizations like the Career Center to make sure that those looking for jobs will be matched up with employers looking for their specific skill set.

"Whenever an employer signs up, we ask them for what their hiring needs are, and the level of training or education needed to fill those jobs, and then we give that information right to Sharon and all the great people at the Career Center," said Abreu "so when they're servicing their people and their constituents they're able to help line this up a little bit easier."

The Southcoast Job Fair runs from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. and the event is free and open to the public.

The Southcoast Career Center will be holding a workshop on Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and another workshop on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Seaport Inn & Marina is located at 110 Middle St. in Fairhaven.
