On Monday, the two companies hoping to buy the Oxford School shed light on the potential future of the historic North Fairhaven building.

The Stratford Group and the Sherwood Building Company presented plans to the Board of Selectmen and answered any questions about their proposals.

The Stratford Group, a company out of Peabody, Ma., presented their plans to convert the building into low-income senior housing.

The company previously proposed to convert the Oxford School into low-income family housing during the town's last attempt to sell the property, however the proposal was declined.

The Sherwood Building Company, based out of Fall River, says they want to keep things about the same for Oxford. The company proposed to have multiple uses for the building, including a charter school, food pantry, and a day-care area.

President, Alex Sylos says, "We want to turn a school into a school. It's not hard."

While the Stratford Group offered significantly more money for the property at $325,000, town officials in attendance leaned toward the Sherwood company's  $25,000 offer for a community center.

Selectman Charlie Murphy made his thoughts clear during the meeting, saying North Fairhaven doesn't need more housing.

Both proposals faced issues with a lack of parking and increased traffic in the area.

However, Selectman Bob Espindola found the Sherwood Company's plans too vague, with no specific companies committed to running each area of the proposed community support center, or even commitments to what exactly would be run.

Although they expect to have more information at their next meeting, the Board of Selectmen is asking residents to voice their opinions on the proposals before then.
