New Bedford comes together on Thanksgiving to feed the needy and the elderly.  Dozens of community volunteers gathered Wednesday night at Greater New Bedford Voke Tech High School to begin the preparation of 1,000 Thanksgiving meals.  Executive Minister David Lima of the Greater New Bedford Interchurch Council was amazed by the volunteers that turned out.

More than 100 turkeys were donated as well.  Lima says more volunteers are expected Thursday morning to deliver those dinners to "Meals On Wheels" recipients in the area.  They'll also be delivering meals to congregate sites to feed the hungry.

Lima says its an inspiration to see people come together for a good cause. The Thanksgiving meals program began 17 years ago in New Bedford thanks to efforts by the Long Plain Baptist Church and Coastline Elderly Services.
