It looks like the Whaling City Festival is being given a one-time trial with a closing time of 9pm instead of 8pm.

Mayor Jon Mitchell spoke with festival representatives, saying if they provided another hour of police details, more lighting, and cleaned the park, he'd give the later closing time a trial run. Now it's up to the festival committee to take the mayor up on his offer.

Festival President Allen Richard tells WBSM's "Mid-Day Live" it'll be an uphill battle to pull everything together.

Richard says he will do his best to ensure there is a festival held in New Bedford this summer, but it will be up to the rest of the committee to decide. An emergency committee meeting is being held Monday night where a final decision will be made.
