TV comedy icon Sid Caesar is dead at the age of 91. Caesar was best known for his live comedy program "Your Show of Shows," which included a roster of writers who would go on to find success on their own - Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Neil Simon among them. "Your Show of Shows" debuted on NBC in 1950 before a live studio audience. It was an instant hit with viewers and became one of the most influential shows of television's golden age.

Long before launching his career as a comedian, the New York-born Sidney Caesar had his sights set on a musical career with the saxophone. He even studied at Juilliard and worked for several orchestras. Caesar's friend and former collaborator Carl Reiner says Caesar died at his home in Los Angeles Wednesday.
