A woman who is running coast-to-coast to promote a nationally known roadway is just days from the finish line in Provincetown.

Forty-six year old Aprylle Gilbert is running along U.S. Route Six and traveling about 30 miles per day. She says the experience has been very hard at times, but the people she's met and the sights along the way are things she'll never forget.

"I have seen the most pristine, adorable little historic towns along the way," said Gilbert. She said Route Six is an "American treasure."

Gilbert stopped at Emma Jeans in Fairhaven this weekend, and spoke with WBSM News. She admits she became obsessed with running in 2012 while going through a divorce.

Her "run" is sponsored by the U.S. Route Six Tourist Association. Don Doucette of Attleboro is the Association's "Ambassador" in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. "Route Six has been a part of my life for all my life," said Doucette. "it's an asset for the state and an asset for the nation and it deserves to be preserved and looked after," he added.

Gilbert, a Gloucester-native, began her journey on May 11th in Long Beach California. She's scheduled to end her run in Provincetown on Tuesday. The cross-country run is serving as a fund-raiser for a youth center in San Jose, California where her escort, Jose Reyes volunteers.
