A man was evacuated off the coast of Nantucket on Saturday.

The Coast Guard says that at around 3 p.m. they were contacted by a crew member of Sassy Girl, a 67-foot fishing boat homeported in Virginia, reporting that another crew member needed medical attention after sustaining a hand injury.

The Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended a medevac and a helicopter crew was dispatched from Air Station Cape Cod.

"The boat's master took action and provided first aid until the Coast Guard crew arrived on scene," said Petty Officer 1st Class Andy Case, the search and rescue coordinator at Sector Southeastern New England. "The professionalism of both the master and the helicopter crew allowed for a safe, successful hoist and transfer to get this man the medical care he needed.”

After he was safely hoisted into the helicopter the crew transported him to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment.
