Attorney General Martha Coakley's campaign is pledging to reimburse the state for mileage and gas costs associated with her campaign travel.

As Attorney General, Coakley travels with a state trooper in a state police vehicle. She receives the added police protection as part of her role as the state's top law enforcement official.

The Boston Globe reported Tuesday  that Coakley has failed to pay back the state for those travel costs associated with her campaign.

A Coakley campaign spokeswoman told the Globe that the campaign and the attorney general's office agreed last year that it would make more sense to reimburse the state once before the end of the fiscal year which ends in June, and once at the end of the campaign.

Coakley is one of five Democrats running for governor.
