Coakley Focused On Re-Election In 2014

Attorney General Martha Coakley says the surprise decision by Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray to skip the governor’s race next year has not changed her own political plans.

Coakley on Wednesday all but ruled out a run for governor, saying attorney general is a great job and she remains focused on re-election in 2014.  The Democrat spoke to reporters following an address to the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce.

Coakley lost to Republican Scott Brown in a 2010 bid for a U.S. Senate seat.

Murray said last week he would not run for governor, citing family reasons.

State treasurer Steve Grossman is among potential Democratic candidates.

Coakley said she expected her party to have a strong field of hopefuls for governor and suggested some younger and lesser known candidates could step forward.  (Associated Press)
