Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is welcoming a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

Clinton and her Egyptian counterpart announced the truce in Cairo.  The ceasefire is due to start at 2 p.m. Eastern.  Israeli sources are confirming the deal and say the blockade of the Gaza Strip will continue.

However, Egyptian sources say the truce will end Israel's targeted killing of Hamas officials and ease the movement of Palestinians.  More than 100 Palestinians have been killed in the last eight days of fighting.  Five Israelis have been killed.  An explosion on a bus in Tel Aviv injured more than 20 people today.
