The City of New Bedford, always considered a Democratic stronghold, threw its support behind former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday.

Clinton defeated Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, 53% to 44% or by more than 1,200 votes. Clinton was likely helped in the Whaling City by a last-minute visit to New Bedford Tuesday by her husband, former President Bill Clinton.

On the Republican side, it was all Donald Trump. The billionaire businessman piled up 58% of the Republican vote in New Bedford.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio finished second with 14% and Senator Ted Cruz finished third with 11% of the vote.

Voter turnout in New Bedford was 29%.
