Classical music and Downtown New Bedford may not sound like the right mix, but its happening every Thursday afternoon outside the Downtown library from 4-6pm.

The Classical Summer Music Series began in June, and will continue through the middle of next month.

Library Director Olivia Mello tells WBSM News, two members of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra are performing each week at the library entrance. "My vocation has always been to make a library a destination to an experience, and I think having this type of music happening is something that will open the eyes of people that libraries are more than just a place to get a book," said Mello.

She said the Thursday performances have attracted anywhere from ten to thirty people, but she would like to see more folks attend.  She's looking for sponsors to extend the program this year, and for next year.
