A private consulting form is working with the City to determine ways to improve three key areas of New Bedford.

The Brovitz Group is meeting with people who live and work in the Acushnet Avenue International Marketplace, Downtown, and the Goulart Square area in the South End.

Consultant Ted Brovitz says the process is called form-zoning, and the goal is to find what makes those areas unique. "Rather than have one zone, mixed-use business, that applies to all three districts, we want to identify the unique characteristics and qualities of these three different districts, and make sure the zoning fits it well," said Brovitz.

The group met with residents and business owners along Acushnet Avenue Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, the group is meeting with those who live and work at Goulart Square in the South End. The discussion begins at 6:30 at St. Martin's Church on Rivet Street.

The consultants will discuss the future of Downtown Thursday night 6:30 at the Bristol Building on Purchase Street.
