Students at the City on a Hill Charter School in New Bedford began classes Tuesday at the school's new home.

The school had been sharing space with Fisher college.

Kristie Loftus, the school's Director of Development and Community Relations says that, while they enjoyed the time spent at Fisher, the new larger facility will better coincide with the school's expansion plans.

"We're only at ninth grade in our first year and we will grow to 280 students in grades nine through twelve so this space will fit our whole school has significantly more classroom space, a forum space for our entire community to get together and meet as a group and additional office space as well," says Fisher.

Loftus also said that school administrators felt it was better to move now, instead of waiting until next year, so that students and staff will have a smoother transition once classes begin in September.

"We just wanted to be able to start the new school year in September without any kinks and we'd be all settled and have everything behind us, " says Loftus.

The school will be holding an open house at their new location, 384 Acushnet Ave, on june 11th at 6:00 p.m.

Student lottery forms for those who wish to enroll next fall are available at the school's website.
