City Hall Flag Plaza Dedicated To WW II Vet Joe Theodore

City Hall's Flag Plaza was dedicated to the late Joe Theodore Monday night by Mayor Jon Mitchell and members of the City Council.

Joe Theodore's spent much of his adult life promoting respect for the Stars and Stripes.  To honor that work, a plaque was placed at the base of the flag pole in Theodore's honor.  

Theodore is a World War II veteran who successfully pettitioned Congress to require the American Fag be lit at all times.  He also educated school children about his experiences at war and about the flag.

Theodore was an active community member, serving as the Patriotism Officer for American Legion Post One in New Bedford.  He died in 2009.
