Members of the New Bedford City Council says it's time to spend some money on the city's Fire Department.

Ward Six City Councilor Joe Lopes says the "living quarters" inside city fire stations are "deplorable," and he wants something done about it.  Lopes and other members of the Council are asking the Dept. of Public Facilities to evaluate conditions in each station, and prepare a maintenance plan for each one.  Lopes tells WBSM News, the city isn't treating its "first responders" very well.......

Lopes says the city might be able to borrow the money to pay for the repairs.  The Council is also asking Fire Chief Michael Gomes to prepare a detailed analysis of each piece of fire apparatus, along with the cost of replacing it.
