A section of Church Street in New Bedford looked a little like the scene of a demolition derby early Saturday.

New Bedford Police say a car operated by 21 year old Mason Medeiros was traveling northbound on Church Street at a high rate of speed, when it collided with two parked cars in the area of 1005 Church Street.

One of the vehicles was struck so hard, it was moved about 60 feet into a flower bed on the property of 1011 Church.

The 1 AM crash caused major damage to the cars and scattered debris throughout the area.

The parked cars were not occupied, but the suspect's vehicle contained three passengers, all in their 20's. All four were taken to Rhode Island Hospital. Police say their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police say Medeiros has been charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
