New Bedford bids farewell Tuesday morning to a long lost child.

The 173-year-old Charles W. Morgan departs from port at 7:30am Tuesday morning, with the Massachusetts Maritime Academy as it's next course heading.

The whaling ship had an extended stay in New Bedford, after Hurricane Arthur brought heavy rain to the area and stirred up strong ocean currents causing the ship to remain berthed at State Pier for one more day.

The Charles W. Morgan will stay at Mass. Maritime Academy through Wednesday before heading up the Cape Cod Canal and over to Provincetown.

The 38th voyage of the Charles W. Morgan will see the ship head to Boston before returning to it's home in Mystic, Connecticut.
