The New Bedford Whaling Museum invites you to celebrate the highly anticipated arrival of the whaleship Charles W. Morgan with a free event for all ages. The "Charles W. Morgan " Countdown Celebration will take place on Wednesday, June 25, from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Whaling Museum and will feature film, local art, and lectures, paired with a boatload of family friendly activities including interactive tours, crafts, games, face painting and more!

The Morgan Countdown Celebration offers something for people of all ages and interests. The event features lectures about the Morgan and Yankee Whaling in addition to the New Bedford premiere of the Charles W. Morgan documentary. There are more kids’ crafts, games and activities than you could image and there is the possibility that guests might have the chance to view the actual arrival of the ship from the Museum’s observation deck during the event.

The Whaling Museum’s Cook Memorial Theater with feature the following films:

2:00 p.m. “Down to the Sea in Ships”, 1922

4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The New Bedford premiere ofThe Charles W. Morgan”

The 1-hour documentary film “The Charles W. Morgan,” directed by five-time Emmy winner Bailey Pryor, tells the extraordinary story of America’s last wooden whaleship and the incredible saga of whaling.

5:00 p.m. “Down to the Sea in Ships,” 1949

This remake of the silent classic was rewritten with a Hollywood-style plot and was directed by Henry Hathaway, starring Richard Widmark and Lionel Barrymore.
