The Boston Celtics wanted, and needed, a win on Saturday night in Washington. If they didn't, they would have fallen to 0-3.

One thing that the Boston Celtics didn't want to do was lose another game. They started off with a big lose to rival Miami, and lost their home opener to Milwaukee. On the road Saturday night against struggling Washington, the C's needed the win.

The got that win, despite a scare. Boston held on for a 89-86 win thanks to 27 points from Paul Pierce. Rajon Rondo had a double - double performance with 12 points and 12 assists. Keving Garnett chimed in with 15 points. The Boston bench contributed, with 11 points from Jeff Green.

So the Celtics are now at 1-2, with their next game also coming against the Wizards, this time in Boston on Wednesday night.
