We are gearing up for our annual food drive "Cans Across The Park" this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The food we collect will go to the Red Cross and the United Way of greater New Bedford.

Once again this year we will collect pet food for local animals. This is something that started last year when we were approached by Manny Maciel, the city's Animal Control Officer.

Manny told us "This program is a great way where we could help our seniors with animals that are already struggling all year round and especially for the holidays. When we first started last year I had met a senior that was giving their food from the Meals on Wheels program to their animal. They were not able to get the nutrition they needed because they were worried about their animal. We teamed up with Karen Main at the Buttonwood Senior Center and the New Bedford Senior Centers to start a program like this."

Manny also told us that the biggest need is cat food, but of course, all will be greatly appreciated.

We hope to see you Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at Buttonwood Park in New Bedford.
