There has been some confusion about "Cans Across the Park." For years it was the Saturday before Thanksgiving, but with Thanksgiving coming so late this year, we decided to hold the event on Saturday, Nov 16. That's not the earliest we've had it. Last year was actually on Nov. 17 but Thanksgiving was earlier.

On Saturday, we will try to make a line of canned goods through the middle of Buttonwood Park from Brownell Ave to Rockdale Ave and we need your help. Some area schools are collecting and some social groups as well, but please come and bring whatever you can.

Also this year we are collecting dog and cat food. New Bedford Animal Control Officer Manny Maciel told us that many of our seniors are having trouble affording pet food. They need the money for prescription bills or just every day bills so they are feeding their animals their own food which means our seniors are not eating enough. So please drop off some pet food too.

The food collected will be distributed to the Red Cross, the Dartmouth Council on Aging and other local food pantries.

Our thannks go to our sponsors this year:

  • KFC
  • Blount Clam Shack and Soup Store
  • Ustinov Jewelers
  • Carter's Clothing
  • New Bedford Voke Tech
  • Gary's Best Hot Dogs
