Local residents will soon be able to take part in a long-term cancer study, which aims to answer many questions for future generations.

The Cancer Prevention Study 3, being performed by the American Cancer Society, has tapped the Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care and the City of New Bedford to reach out to the public in search of participants.

Dr. Elizabeth Blanchard with the Southcoast Centers for Cancer Care says there's no doubt that factors like smoking and obesity can lead to cancer.

To participate in the study, you must be between the ages of 30 and 65, with no personal history of cancer.
