NEW BEDFORD - Members of the New Bedford Police Narcotics Unit arrested two people Tuesday during an investigation of street level narcotics sales in the west end of the city.

Police observed suspicious activity in a vehicle parked near State Street and Pearl Street. Police arrested Mariah E. Cardoza, 26, of 52 Cypress St., Buzzards Bay, on charges of possession of crack cocaine after a small amount of crack cocaine was found in her vehicle.

Police also arrested Russell S. Andrews, 35, of 15 Bonney St. Apt. 3, New Bedford, after police found 17 tabs of Oxycontin, $121 in cash and a taser in his possession. He was arrested following a motor vehicle stop at County Street near Union Street.

The arrests were made at about 2:11 p.m.
