There is a new initiative in New Bedford to assist people in buying homes in the city.

The "Buy New Bedford" program is sponsored through the city's Office of Housing and Community Development, MassHousing, and six local banks and credit unions.

Housing Office Deputy Director Lori Moring tells WBSM News, the program offers 30 year, fixed rate mortgagues with discounted rates, and a manageable down payment....

Moring says the program is designed for homebuyers who plan to live in the properties as their primary residence.

You can learn more about the "Buy New Bedford" program by calling 508 979-1500 or attending a Home Buyers Fair this Saturday at the Dartmouth Mall.

It runs from 10 to 2 and officials will be on hand to answer questions.
