The Friends of Buttonwood Park are getting a little monetary boost from the Island Foundation of Marion for the refurbishing of the basketball courts at the park.

The Foundation is awarding a $5,000 grant to the group  for general support to rebuild the park's basketball courts. In November, the Friends of Buttonwood Park began a major fundraising campaign for the estimated $150,000 construction cost for new courts.Anne Eades, President of the Friends says the group raised more than $10,000 prior to receiving the foundation grant.

Three new basketball courts with aprons, benches and lighting are planned for the park. Ground-breaking is scheduled for spring, with construction to be completed this summer.
