A Brockton High School teacher has been ordered held on $20,000 bail after pleading not guilty to charges that he raped a teenage student.

Plymouth County District Attorney's office says 57-year-old Joaquim Andrade was arraigned Friday on numerous charges. They include rape of a child with force, enticement of a child, indecent assault and battery on a child over 14.

Prosecutors allege that the assault occurred on Oct. 7 off school grounds, in Brockton.

Andrade did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday evening.

A Brockton District Court judge ordered the veteran teacher to have no contact with the alleged victim.

Brockton public school Superintendent Kathleen Smith says Andrade was placed on leave immediately after the allegations surfaced and high school parents were notified of the investigation.
