Thanks to a quarter of a million dollar grant from the Federal Government, the Bristol County Sheriff's Department will be reaching out for the first time to prisoners awaiting trail with warnings about the opioid crisis.

Sheriff Tom Hodgson says the program will include intervention, counseling, and information about help on the outside.

"We don't want them going right back into the same temptations, same habits without them having an understanding of where they can go to get support to keep away from it, counseling and community programs as well as the intervention we give them inside the prison," said Hodgson.

The state received $2.5 million in Federal money to battle opioid abuse. The money was distributed to sheriff's departments, district attorneys, and State Police. The grants were announced Monday by Governor Baker.
