Bristol Community College is fifty years old, and to celebrate, the College is holding birthday parties this week at each of its four campuses in Fall River, New Bedford, Taunton and Attleboro.

Tens of thousands of students have attended classes at B-C-C over the years, but President John Sbrega knows the college's job isn't over, especially in this part of the state.

"We have these terrible twin evils I call them, of low levels of literacy and poor educational attainment, so we have much more work to do at Bristol," said Sbrega.

B-C-C opened its doors in 1966 with about 500 day and evening students in Fall River. Bristol is now the second largest community college in the Commonwealth.

Sbrega says the goal of the B-C-C family is to help students attain success. "Student success covers a wide area," said Sbrega, "not just academic success but also workforce development." He says the college is filling a very vital role.
