Bridgewater State University cast a nationwide net in its search for a new president, but has selected an alumnus and current administrator for the position.

The university's trustees on Monday announced that Frederick Clark Jr. has been unanimously recommended for the job. The appointment is subject to approval by the state Board of Higher Education.

Clark is a 1983 Bridgewater State graduate and since 2011 has been the school's vice president of external affairs.

In that position he has created hundreds of paid internships, expanded international engagement, reinvigorated regional business and educational partnerships, and helped establish the school's Cape Cod satellite campus, which will begin offering courses in January.

Clark will succeed Dana Mohler-Faria, who is retiring in June after 13 years on the job. The university has about 11,500 students.
