Brian Williams is giving up his seat on the board of directors for the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation. The group says the embattled "NBC Nightly News" anchor has resigned.

Williams had served on the board since 2006. His resignation comes a week after NBC suspended Williams for six months without pay for his repeated retelling of an inaccurate account of his experience in Iraq.

The Medal Of Honor Foundation is dedicated to promoting military valor. The group did not offer any additional information about Williams' decision on its website except to say that he had resigned. (Metro Networks Inc.)
