The New Bedford City Council elected a familiar face to serve as the 2015 Council President.

Councilor at Large Brian Gomes won his third term as Council President during a special meeting Monday night. Hear what he had to say about the victory...

He defeated Councilor at Large Linda Morad 6-5. A second vote was called for a unanimous vote, but resulted 8-3 with Morad, David Alves, and Henry Bousquet still voting no.

The newly elected president offered respect to all councilors, despite the three votes against him.

Gomes says along with plans to work closer with Mayor Jon Mitchell's office, he hopes to continue the Council's efforts to improve the City's schools.

During his impromptu speech from the president's chair, Gomes also gave his support for a public input period before City Council meetings. Councilors Dana Rebeiro and Naomi Carney proposed the idea last month, but it was defeated by the Council.
