In recent years, there's been a lot of chatter on the web about the association between wearing a bra and breast cancer. A new study published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, found that among 1,500 women, there was no connection between bra wearing and breast-cancer risk.

Why would anyone think there might be an association between bra wearing and breast cancer? A 1991 study, and the only one until now, found that women who did not wear bras had a lower risk of breast cancer. But somehow the myth spread. On the American Cancer Society website, it traces the rumor back to an obscure book titled Dressed To Kill.

The American Cancer Society dismisses the book, stating there are no scientifically valid studies showing that wearing a bra causes any kind of breast cancer. In the new study, its author, Lu Chen, also dismisses the false notion that bras impede lymph circulation and drainage, trapping toxins in breasts that can trigger tumors.
