A Staples box-truck crashes on Rt. 6 in New Bedford, near the New Bedford-Fairhaven bridge, causing traffic to back up in both directions.

The driver was heading east and apparently struck a guardrail, then landed on top of a concrete barrier across from Fathoms Restuarant.

New Bedford Fire Chief Michael Gomes tells WBSM News, the crash caused a fuel leak, and a small amount of fuel went into the harbor.

Gomes says the fuel that went into the harbor was deemed unrecoverable.

No injuries were reported.

Police say traffic in both directions on Rt. 6 has been detoured until about 3:30pm or so, so the truck can be removed.
